my parent, my teacher.
I struggled to love you,
until learning your pain,
you did your best,
and from you, I remain.
So happy I am,
for choosing you here,
as watching you leave,
shaped my overcoming of fear.
Today’s Thought — Our soul chooses our parents on purpose before arriving here, to teach us some of, if not our greatest lessons this lifetime.
Ingrained in my belief system now this is. For the most profound liberation I met when becoming a student to the lives of my parents. To understand trauma, is to acknowledge that everyone faces it in some way or another, and everyone has the individual right to deal with its impact in their own way, for that way is the only way which they know.
My parents couldn’t slide their iPhones and open a mediation app to try to begin making sense of the deep-rooted trauma instilled within. They would be thought crazy to even consider unlocking their voices trapped inside a chamber of truth, even in the spaces called ‘home’.
Those spaces we grow assuming will hold our greatest sense of love, warmth and safety from birth, that often become those which cultivate our deepest memories of pain and suffering.
So in this essence I become grateful for the accessibility to such resources that allow for us to feel that sense of ‘home’ at any time, anywhere, with the simple click of a button — this which we are experiencing so profoundly throughout this time.
Do you want to dance, meditate, sweat, move? Sure, jump on Instagram lives of studios around the world providing high energy hourly. How about cooking and karaoke with people around the globe via a little camera embedded in your screen? Sure download house party and connect with souls from all walks of life. Do you want to cry, release grief, unblock trauma and learn how to recover from it? No problem, connect with healers all over the world offering spaces to do so online and at little or no cost.
I meet with resistance in imagining what my life would look like without the access to the life-changing modalities of healing I have been so fortunately granted, that which I do not take for granted.
And with that has come an innate awareness, an honouring of every individual on this planet walking the way they are — for accessibility is not equal, freedom is not equal, a right to be as born to be, is not equal. And until it is, the trauma remains.
A New Earth, welcomed with open hearts.
